Critics with attitude

Every person carries more computing power in their pocket than astronauts carried to the moon. Pull the smartphone out of your pocket and take a giant step toward creating your next adventure. That’s how we started! Make NO excuses.

What's up Videolanders?

Adventures in Videoland, also known as A.V. and Videoland, is a space for friends to talk about movies and other topics of interest. We are excited to expand to many different forums, including this website, but all conversations begin and end at our origin, Facebook. Videolanders can come here to access old videos and podcasts (which have been organized for your convenience) and find out the details of how Videoland works in the mind of founder, Brad Hawkins.

We've been using humor with a sarcastic edge to review movies, comics, and anything else pop culture presents as a worthy topic since 2015. Our goal is to become the premiere site for movie news, reviews, and cock jokes. Besides, what's a site without a little off-color humor? We are currently based in Lafayette, Indiana and our studio, the Dragon's Lair, is based out of a garage. A.V. covers everything from Arthouse to Grindhouse.

Our site continues to grow because of our emphasis on community, our acknowledgement that every Videolander has a voice worthy to be heard, and our love of the moving picture.

The Adventures in Videoland movie review is a long-form conversation hosted by founder Brad Hawkins and members of the community. These group conversations dig deep into recent and classic films, and include our Versus, Marathons, Pantheon Companions and movie reviews. Our podcast (which was Beta-tested as A.V. Unplugged and now just referred to as the Adventures in Videoland Podcast) is located on iTunes and SoundCloud.

Keep an eye out for shorter podcasts that are recorded for the fast paced world in which we live. Sit back, relax, and enjoy these one-on-ones from the OG Videolander and founder Brad Hawkins.

New podcasts are released to iTunes and SoundCloud whenever a discussion presents itself. Like us on Facebook and download the iTunes and SoundCloud Apps to get instant notifications on updates. Feel free to add a comment on Facebook and join in on the conversation. As always...Let's talk about movies!!

AT A.V. WE KEEP IT SIMPLE WITH OUR 5 STAR RATING SYSTEM

Why do we need extra stars on a 10 star scale to say the same thing?

1 = Ugly (Not recommended at all)

2 = Bad (Recommended in exceptional circumstances because sometimes bad movies are fun)

3 = Good (Recommended)

4 = Great (Watch this movie as soon as possible)

5 = Pantheon (Strongly recommended and belongs with the greatest films of all-time)

THE CREW

The Crew consists of select members chosen to serve as ambassadors for Adventures in Videoland. The Crew provides advice and counsel, serving as the foundation for Videoland.

Brad Hawkins

Brad is the founder of Adventures in Videoland, a Midwest film critic, and the main host for Adventures in Videoland. While some have nicknamed him the guy who secretly hates movies,” Brad would insist he is overly critical because he wants filmmakers to reach and surpass the bar that has been set by the previous generations. Brad is hard on movies because he wants his children to experience their own original high quality films like he experienced such films as Star Wars, Godfather, and Die Hard. He considers every review a vote toward the quality of entertainment he would like to see projected in the years to come. Brad has been infatuated with movie magic since he was a kid. He grew up renting movies from a local videostore called Videoland during the 80's and early 90's, which inspired the name for this group. The time spent watching those movies helped shape his love of film and contributed to the personality he is known for on and off camera. As ideas were transcended onto film and flowed from theater to the living room, he started to learn the art of conversation and the art of film criticism by engaging with friends, family, and co-workers. Brad uses his smart phone as a paint brush to help form opinions and inform Videolanders. Brad's goal for A.V. is to become the premiere site for movie reviews. He also hopes it can be a place to break down the communication barriers, so we can meet new people and form unexpected friendships. He believes that film criticism is not just an important art form, it's an adventure. Brad spends many hours producing and editing the podcasts and videos. He also maintains all other A.V. -connected social media outlets. When not working on A.V.’s next project, Brad is a personal trainer. Brad is the OVL (Original VideoLander.)

*Special thanks to my Grandparents, for taking me and my cousins to the local video store and letting us stay up late into the night.

Seth Fisher

Seth is an Independent filmmaker that has been working out of Lafayette, Indiana for a better part of a decade. Seth has helped write, edit, and produce more than 15 projects with SERK Projects. His love for movies is what brought him to AV. Seth is also an A.V. original. He appears in episode Zero of Adventures in Videoland. Seth is an administrator for our Adventures in Videoland Facebook page, and is also generally the main co-host on A.V. Hit him up for a conversation. You can find him on any of our social media outlets.

Matthew wade

Matthew Wade is a two-time Purdue graduate, and A.V.’s editor. He also happens to be Videolander Marshall Wade’s brother, and although they agree on a lot, their opinions do differ from time to time! When not reviewing movies for A.V. (in written and podcast form), Matthew writes and publishes novels (his latest—The Burgeoning Heart of Bambi Bazooms—will be out later this year, he swears!). Aside from movies, his diverse interests include anime, manga, TV shows, American comics, and literature of all genres. He is always up for watching something new, so feel free hit him up on Facebook, and let’s talk movies!

 April Hawkins

April is a Purdue graduate and local Lafayette Brawlin' Doll Roller Derby Girl. April is college educated and yet still is crazy enough to be married to A.V. founder, Brad Hawkins. April is plugged into Brad's crazy 24/7 while others can hit pause. April is an avid lover of books and movies. She has acted on stage and worked behind the scenes at the local playhouse. April aspires to one day pen a children's collection of stories. April hails as the First Lady of Adventures in Videoland.

Ryan Smith

Ryan, life long friend of founder Brad Hawkins, currently lives outside of Indianapolis so he doesn't get to participate in the studio much. While his physical presence may be lacking, there isn't anything that doesn't get his input before it gets finalized and placed on Videoland. He is often the first person Brad goes to for advice when it comes to making changes or improvements. Brad and Ryan have been using the A.V. 5 star rating system, creating Top 10 lists, and discussing the meaning of Pantheon since as early as 2009.  A.V. was inspired by (and wouldn't be what it is today without) their shared conversations into the night. Ryan is a lover of film and music, as well as most things geeky. Ryan is the A.V. go-to guy. He knows anything and everthing about Videoland. He is always up for a good conversation so hit him up on Facebook and let's talk about movies!
