A.V. Opinions: My Bloody Valentine cast reunites at Scarefest 2025
Scarefest 2025 brought horror fans something truly special this year, a reunion with the original cast of My Bloody Valentine. For longtime genre fans, this was the definition of a white whale experience. You go to enough conventions and you start to see the same rotation of guests, the usual icons, the dependable faces who’ve made the con circuit part of their second career. But every once in a while, you stumble upon something so rare that it reminds you why you fell in love with these events in the first place. That was the case this year in Lexington, when the cast of My Bloody Valentine finally made their appearance together, decades after the film’s release.
For context, the 1981 slasher has long been a cult favorite, a gritty, working-class horror film that stood out in the early 80s boom of masked killers. It was a Canadian production with heart (pun intended), mining-town atmosphere, and a sense of dread that still holds up. Yet despite its loyal fanbase and critical reappraisal over the years, the cast never really became part of the regular horror convention scene. When I asked them about it, they told me they rarely, if ever, get invited. That blew my mind. These are actors who were part of one of the most memorable slashers of its time, and somehow they’ve slipped under the radar while other horror icons have made entire second careers out of signing autographs and taking photos.
That’s exactly why this appearance felt so special. Standing there, watching them share stories and interact with fans, felt like uncovering a lost piece of horror history. The excitement in the room was different, not just nostalgia, but genuine appreciation. You could tell the crowd understood how rare this was, and that made the energy electric. For me, it was one of those “you had to be there” moments, the kind you can’t manufacture or plan for.
If there’s one takeaway from Scarefest 2025, it’s that conventions need to dig a little deeper when it comes to their guest lineups. Fans love Freddy and Jason as much as anyone, but it’s these unexpected reunions, the forgotten cult classics, the underappreciated gems, that make a convention truly memorable. Horror has always thrived on rediscovery, and this My Bloody Valentine reunion was proof that even after forty years, some hearts never stop beating.
