A.V. Opinions: Scarefest 2026 needs to invite Tina Romero and the Queens of the Dead
I just got out of the theater from watching Queens of the Dead directed by Tina Romero, the daughter of the late great George A. Romero, the godfather of zombie movies we all love. As someone who considers George Romero one of my all-time favorite directors, I went in with high expectations. And honestly, I really enjoyed the movie. But one of the main thoughts I had while watching it was how amazing would it be if Scarefest could bring Tina Romero and the cast of Queens of the Dead to next year’s convention?
Tina Romero is zombie royalty in every sense of the word. She is the bloodline of George A. Romero. And now, Tina is carrying that torch with her own voice, her own vision, and her own addition to the Romero legacy. She is not just continuing the family name; she is expanding it.
Queens of the Dead is not just another zombie flick. It is a smart, stylish film that delivers the kind of social commentary that George Romero built his legacy on. It’s a fresh and fearless addition to the world of the dead and a film that would absolutely make her father proud.
Seeing Tina and the cast at Scarefest would be an absolute treat for horror fans. I would love to get a Queens of the Dead poster signed by the entire cast and sit in on a panel where they talk about making the film, their influences, and how they are keeping the Romero spirit alive for a new generation.
And because Queens of the Dead celebrates both horror and drag culture, I think Scarefest could take it a step further. Imagine a Drag Queen Zombie Party at night with prizes for the best drag queen and the best drag queen zombie. It would be wild, creative, and completely on theme with the film’s energy.
Come on, this is an easy slow pitch for Scarefest. Do it before all the other conventions. Romero zombies, drag queens, and an after-party counting down to crown the best-looking zombie drag queen. I mean, this would be amazing. And I would love to help in any capacity to bring this to life.
Bringing Tina Romero and her cast to Scarefest 2026 would be more than just a cool booking. It would be a celebration of legacy, creativity, and community. It is the perfect way to honor the Romero name while embracing a bold new chapter in zombie cinema. Horror fans would eat it up, pun totally intended.
