A.V. Pull List: I’m absolutely all in on DC’s new Absolute Universe

I’m absolutely all in on DC’s new Absolute Universe, and if you’re a comic fan looking for something fresh, I think you should be too. DC’s new take on the classic characters, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, are some of my favorite comics on the stands right now.

First off, Absolute Batman has been pure, dumb fun in the best way possible. I’d say it’s my favorite out of the three comics. This new origin story for Batman has a bulkier, grittier feel that reminds me of Frank Miller’s classics. If you love Miller’s gritty touch, this version of Batman will be right up your alley.

Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman are neck and neck for the second spot. Both titles bring something exciting and fresh to these iconic characters. Wonder Woman’s story has an edge that feels different from what we’ve seen before, and Superman’s arc is setting up something epic. The thrill of discovering where these stories are heading is half the fun, and the new interpretations breathe new life into their mythology.

Also, this isn’t just DC’s “Ultimate Universe.” It’s something different and, dare I say, better. In fact, I think it’s better than the current Ultimate line. If you asked me right now to pick between Marvel’s Ultimate Universe and DC’s Absolute Universe, I’d say Absolute is winning. The creators are taking risks, and it shows.

Next year promises new characters and surprises in the Absolute Universe, and I, for one, am here for it. Whether it’s new takes on heroes or some wild, left-field additions, I can’t wait to see what’s next.
