Nintendo is turning Mario into an extraction shooter like ARC Raiders
In a move that absolutely no one asked for but somehow feels inevitable in 2025, Nintendo has reportedly decided to turn its most beloved icon into an extraction shooter. Yes, Mario is finally dropping into the Mushroom Kingdom with nothing but his overalls, a wrench, and the desperate hope of making it to an extraction pipe before Bowser’s goons erase him.
Early leaks claim the game is called Super Mario Extraction, where players spawn in randomized parts of the Kingdom, loot power ups, and attempt to extract coins before the whole map goes bananas. Allegedly, Yoshi can now be used as mobile cover, which is either innovative or a war crime depending on who you ask.
This industry shift began after the explosive rise of Arc Raiders, the so called generational extraction shooter currently steamrolling everything in its path. Now every studio on Earth is scrambling to turn their franchises into extraction games whether they make sense or not.
Reports say Ubisoft is deep into Assassin’s Creed Extraction. Sony is supposedly working on God of War Extraction. Rumors are swirling about Halo Extraction, Elden Ring Extraction, and even the most cursed idea of all: Forza Horizon Extraction, because why not.
Even Rockstar delayed Grand Theft Auto VI again, not because it needs more polish, but because Arc Raiders’ success triggered an internal panic. According to anonymous developers, someone high up said, “Nobody wants this old shit anymore. They want loot timers,” and suddenly every mission in the game was under review. Supposedly everything you do now will be about extracting.
But the true symbol of gaming’s new world order is Mario himself. If even Nintendo is willing to hand the keys of the Mushroom Kingdom over to extraction loops and inventory management, the industry has fully committed to the bit.
One insider summed it up perfectly. “If Mario is extracting now, we’re done. This is it. Welcome to the Extraction Era, where every game is just waiting for pickup.”
