Versus Rules
Versus is A.V.'s Fight Club of sorts, where we pit two movies against each other and see who comes out the victor. Consider this page the Thunderdome of movie watching, where two movies enter, one movie leaves.
Versus is hosted by Brad Hawkins--with up to three other Videolanders and together we try to represent our community of cinephiles. This exercise has helped us understand filmmaking and changed the way we watch movies. We use the Versus episodes to examine and discuss films we've needed to see or haven't seen in a while. We recognize a genre's or director's achievements by forming a list of categories. The various category winners are awarded a Golden Idol statuette, which has become commonly desired by Adventurers worldwide.
Marathons Rules
The Marathon Golden Idols is an A.V. awards ceremony. We choose 5-6 movies from the same genre, director etc. to view and compare. The various category winners are awarded a Golden Idol statuette, officially called the Chachapoyan Fertility Idol, which has become desired by Adventurers worldwide.
All Marathons are hosted by Brad Hawkins. In 2016 we added The Marathon Men. The current Marathon Men are Nathan Plantenga and Kyle Brown. Together we represent the A.V. community of cinephiles. This exercise has helped us understand filmmaking and changed the way we watch movies. We use the marathon to examine and discuss films we've needed to see or haven't seen in a while.
Pantheon Rules
The ancient Pantheon is a temple dedicated to honoring all the gods. The Greek word combines pan- ("all") and theos- ("god").
Discussing the greatest of all time greats has inspired us to build our own Pantheon. The A.V. Pantheon is a page for honoring the greatest films ever made.
The idea of Pantheon is not a unique idea to Videoland, and in fact many well known critics and sports enthusiasts have come up with their own Pantheons. However, we believe that our unique council members and our rules will help define our Pantheon for future Videolanders worldwide.
I hope the future of this Pantheon will point toward the heart of Videoland. The goal of A.V. has always been to find ourselves as viewers and to continue the discussion that was started long ago.
